A Brand Idenity
This design was recognized by the How crew as an inspiration to hire Might and Main to design an award winning magazine cover. I obtained the image from might-main.com after hearing of it from howdesign.com a few days ago. There are 5 horizontal lines of content with the image in the top line being sliced in half by the horizon at the same time it is overlapped by the text in the next line. The image of the oyster between sea and sky has the organization's name written over it to reveal unification of theme.

Quantum Typeface
Today's images are from the July 2013 issue of Computer Arts and feature the typeface Quantum. The design of Quantum uses contrasts to catch the eye and is best employed as a larger font size as both its light qualities will make the letters hard to discern at smaller sizes.

A poster of contrasts
This weeks design is from Computer Design, August 2013 issue.
I am attracted to the idea of a human within a beast idea that is the part of this design. I miss some of the aspects of this design as I am unfamiliar with the fashion world but the layout of the cool colored juxtaposed images against the predominately warm background of a luxurious setting give me a brought idea of the message of "bestial instinct vs fashion instinct".

Graphic Design of a Property Developer's Literture
This week's featured Graphic Design piece is a work done for property developer Mileeu Property that redesign their literature. It is from Computer Arts September 2013 issue.
The designer made decision to break away from the pack of those designing literature for property developers and reduce the elements in order to clarify the message as well as to stand out. The designer studio used the placement of designs and negative space as part of the message to invoke infer images in property development. With this choice of minimalism the reason each element is placed in the whole has to be considered and its effect maximized.

A look at Harvard Medicine magazine
Harvard Medicine Winter 2013 Magazine cover and interior page designs featured in the Communication Arts Design Annual 54 September/October 2013.
These designs are interesting in that the flag design is present in both.
The flag on the cover is designed with many lines already and the designer utilized this characteristics to add naturalistic images of medical images to link it to the healthcare theme of the magazine. The intense naturalistic color combined with the lack of negative space makes it seem energetic. The repetitiveness gives it a sense of professionalism.
The inside page goes for a different type of balance with the large fonts and font images on the left balancing the text a small medical imaged flag on the right. The font images are abstract and keep in line with the theme to insert medical imagery into image or in this case what looks like pseudo logo. The colors are toned down to what is a greyscale image with only the flag in color. The large scale of the pseudo logo and the the abstract of the medical imagery within will pull the eye of those whose primary intent is to read the text. The same things plus the words are designed to effect the context of the person reading the text to reflect its relationship to the magazine and perhaps other things. The pages theme is completely unified and the connection to the cover is maintained by the small flag and medical imagery in the pseudo logo.
